Natchitoches
one of the oldest settlements in the state of Louisiana; plantation sites, historic trails along the Cane river and a downtown filled with antique stores.

Special visit
My dad experienced serious health problems, and when they were at it's worst he said that whatever happened he wanted to visit the United States one more time. So sad to even think that we were talking about 'one more time' :-(
But now.....he is on his way!!! They will be here in less than 4 hours!
And not only has his wish of visiting once more come true, there will hopefully be many many more!!
Can't wait to see the look on Max's face, this visit is a very big deal :-). He made it!

Making friends
Yesterday Max and I went grocery shopping together. Groceries for me and muffins for Max.
When we were done we went to the cash register to pay. There was a gentleman packing bags for the customers and walking them to their cars if they had a lot of groceries (like us). I had talked to him briefly once before.
When he saw us he got a big smile on his face and said: How are you today? I said: Fine thank you, and how are you? Great! And then he asked me the same question about three more times. Same response from me. He could not stop smiling at me: 'You know me right? I have seen you here before.' Oh yes, I said we talked very nicely last time.
After paying for the groceries he walked us to the car, we chatted a little bit, he was just still so excited and then said :
I really like you a lot, you are a very nice person :-). Do you like me too?
Uhm, well you are always very nice to us (I usually wait a while before a tell people I like them).
Then he said: I really like him too (Max) :-). Hi buddy, Max totally ignored him (he was playing on the phone), but he did not care, he stared at him very happy and said, Bye buddy, before closing his car door.
Before leaving he excitedly told me again: I really like you, then gave me hand, introduced himself, asked me what my name was and then we said goodbye's. SEE YOU NEXT TIME!! BYE BYE (still all smiles).
Not hard at all to make new friends!

Spot the differences
Do you see the differences between the two?
Me neither, but according to Max, one of these is 'Absolutely disgusting!, How dare you feed me that!, I will not touch it!' and the other one is 'Yammie, cheerios!'
Serves me for thinking that I can just simply switch brands and expect Max not to notice.

Tricky grammar
Another step forward in Max's language development:
He was eating and ran out of food, he then started to say: "I want more eat the food," after which he looked a little puzzled, corrected himself and said: "I want more food."
This is huge because Max tends to learns things by memory, phrases like "eat the food" are learned in chunks, not as separate words. But tonight he showed insight, the words are no longer a chunk, they have individual meaning now :-).
And he was hungry....

I and you
Sometimes we have to guess what Max 'gets,' he is not always able to share his inner world with us. Luckily he does offer glimpses.
The other day I said:' Max, can I cut YOUR hair?' to which he repeated:'No no, cut MY hair.'
Then Saturday when mike placed him on his neck, Max said: 'I big :-).'
Today when has was taking a bath he said: 'I take a bath.'
I think he gets it..
