Time for an update!

Because I am avoiding a research paper ;-).

Maxwell received his very first report card! And it represented him well. He either scored outstanding, above what is expected for his age, or unsatisfactory. He is either really good at something or he can't do it. Yes, that sounds like Maxwell.

Compared to last summer, Max can now actually write. It's mostly hard to read, but certain letters and numbers come out very clear: 1,2 ,3,e ,h ,l etc, big difference compared to the summer scribbles. He can also write his name. But the best part is that he enjoys writing, it is no longer a forced activity. This morning, right before school, I found him with pencil marks on his legs 'I wrote Max,' yes you did!

He can also read little sentences. We worked a lot on sight words over the summer and he benefits from that now. He has already mastered all words for this year and is working on early reading. In fact, he reads better than he talks :-).

He has learned about the solar system and memorized the order of the planets within a few minutes. It made me realize how much he likes learning, and that we should keep offering him material. I have ordered some early learning science books.

We finally had a successful dentist visit! His teeth are sparkly white again and zero cavities! Dentist said his teeth look great and that his big boy teeth are coming in. Within 6-8 months he'll loose some of his baby ones.

He's conquering some fears. Last Saturday there was a huge slide at the pumpkin patch, after being there for a while, Max stated he wanted to go of the slide. Mike went with him and after some initial anxiety Max got over his fears and slid down by himself. He did it! And then wanted to go again ;-).

Just two months into the school year, I'm excited to see what the rest of the year brings! Keep working hard buddy, you can do it!

Max still loves music and now sings entire songs on his own. His current favorites are 'Listen to the man' from George Ezra and the Halloween Song from 'the Nightmare before Christmas' (speaking of Halloween, he is very excited and keeps telling us he's going to wear a costume, ring the neighbors doorbell and say 'trick or treat!' We think this year might be the year, the year where he finally gets it and can participate). For you Maxwell:

Time

Oh, I want to keep up with this blog, because I picture myself one day (hopefully) old memorizing these years with Maxwell. And I don't want to forget anything :-(. But I started a new journey, I have begun the process of obtaining a PhD in Clinical Psychology. I am not sure where it will lead, or if I'll even finish, but I am sure it is taking up a lot of time! I all of a sudden need more hours in the day. One thing has not changed though, my time with Max is still my time with Max. School ends at the same time each day for the both of us. And if we study in the weekend, we all 'study' together. What has changed is my ability to capture it all, I'm behind. I want to make an extra effort to document his childhood because it is going so fast..I am writing down moments here and there and I am taking pictures, there's no organization or blog post attached, but they re there and they'll be there later ...

Just look at his face, no matter what I do I can't help but think these years will have been the best years of my life, watching Maxwell grow up. He's only 5 I know, but somehow 5 seems so big already.
